One Hundred Years Of Sonictude

This post might sound like a lot of complaining about something we chose to do, but mostly it's our amusement about how crazy it turned out to be and us showing our dedication to Sonic.

If you have ever spoken to Tiffany and I very much regarding our opinion of food in MA, you've heard us complain numerous times about the lack of good franchises here, and what good ones there are are few and distant from us as this posting will reinforce. A few months back the one accessible location of Tiffany's favorite pizza franchise Papa Johns closed suddenly, leaving Dominos and poor local pizza as our only alternative.

So when a Sonic Drive-In opened in Massachusetts, we were very disbelieving and extremely happy when we found it to be true seeing as that's her favorite "Fast Food" place by far, and I'm rather fond of it myself and really enjoyed eating there with her in Ohio and Utah. It seemed like a minor miracle that the State of Massachusetts got something right for once. It is located in the town of Peabody which is east of us about a 20 minutes away. Thankfully avoiding the kiss of death of being in or near down town Boston. So on the evening of September the 5th we excitedly decided we would give it a shot. Which would prove to be a very silly idea.

Us at the very back of the line.

This was just over a month ago now so I'm a little foggy on the beginning time, but it seems to me to me that we got there just before 7:00 p.m. and I do remember for sure that we didn't get our food until 11:00 p.m. Tiffany's theory is since no one in MA can appreciate the food we like, every single out of state person living or visiting Massachusetts on that day decided to go to Sonic on that night. When we got there we thought that maybe there was some major construction on the road or there had been an accident but the slow down and the line to come was entirely decided to the Sonic.

Every time somebody gave up and got out of the line we cheered, although knowing we probably should have done the same.

We didn't know this was going to the event of the September season so we didn't bring our main camera, theses were taken with the camera on Tiffany's new cell phone and all things considered I think it did a pretty decent job with no flash in the dark.

Looking back at the line that accumulated behind us progressively as we made our way forward.

Tiffany after waiting 4 hours in a drive through line on an empty stomach.

The promised land of the drive-through order screen.

We've been back there three times since that night, one time giving up, once waiting half an hour in line and the last time this previous Saturday waiting over an hour. Still every time we go there we're optimistic that the crowds will level out. This last time they got our burger orders right for the first time, but then they forgot the marinara sauce for the first time. That's karma. We still maintain that Cherry Limeade was and is well worth the price.

Well, I guess if you have some spare capital lying about, you could probably start your own Sonic franchise and wait in line less. ;)

That's not a bad idea actually! Except the extreme weight gain that would follow when I'd have them tap deep fat fried cheese directly into my veins.

Yum, glad that it's there. One of these days we'll have to give it a try. Is it worth it? Is it as good as Utah?
